1. Drinking Water Quality (SANS 241 – Full and Screening Tests)
Our laboratory provides comprehensive chemical and microbiological analysis of drinking water in accordance with SANS 241, the South African standard for safe potable water. Testing includes microbiological indicators such as E. coli, as well as chemical parameters such as nitrates, fluoride, salts, metals and pH. We offer both full compliance testing and a shortened screening version, a more limited, risk-based approach.
2. Borehole/ spring Water for Human Consumption and Household Use
Borehole water can vary greatly in quality and may contain harmful bacteria, viruses and parasites. Also chemicals, metals, minerals and other contaminants like toxins. Our laboratory offers complete chemical and microbiological testing to determine whether borehole water is safe for drinking, cooking and household use. If you want to use the water in geysers and kettles, you may want to know the hardness of the water and if it has scale forming/ depositing, or corrosive properties in addition.
3. Bottled (or packaged) Water
Water that has passed a drinking water quality test is not automatically suitable for bottling without further testing. Specific guidelines apply to bottled water.
3.1 Bottled Natural groundwater and springwater – SANS 1657 Compliance
(No treatment that alters the natural mineral content is permitted.)
We perform full chemical and microbiological testing of bottled water according to SANS 1657, the standard for natural mineral water, spring water and other packaged drinking waters from a natural source. This includes testing for microbial safety, mineral composition, heavy metals, nitrates, and overall chemical quality. Our results assist bottled water producers in meeting regulatory requirements, maintaining product quality and protecting consumer health.
3.2 Bottled Processed water – SANS 1862 Compliance
(Any water that has been treated or processed)

Testing verifies that water is free from harmful bacteria and meets strict chemical safety limits. This ensures bottled water products are compliant, safe for consumption, and suitable for sale in the South African market.

Chemical testing includes salinity, sodium levels, pH, alkalinity and nutrients, while microbiological testing identifies potential contamination risks.
